Problem The problem applies to all versions of Outlook. Outlook or NEO may report several MAPI errors or other errors relating to improper installation, a corruption, initialization issues or that an Outlook object is simply not available.
Description These problems may relate to the Microsoft MAPI interface, the Microsoft Automation interface or other Outlook objects. Corruptions can occur over time in Outlook objects and it is possible that problems occur immediately due to a corruption during the installation or upgrading of Outlook. This may occur for a number of reasons but the net result is that the Outlook environment is broken and must be fixed.
Resolution If this occurs, please repair Outlook. To do this follow these steps:
Please close NEO
Try to correct the problem with an Outlook 'Help | Detect and Repair'
Start NEO and retest the problem
If the Detect and Repair fails to rectify the problem:
Close NEO and Outlook
Insert the Office CD and do an Outlook and full Office repair from the Office CD. Some objects are shared between several Office applications so a repair of Office is more thorough than a repair of just Outlook
Start Outlook
Start NEO (if not configured to start when Outlook starts) and retest the problem
The repair from the CD is more thorough than the 'Detect and Repair' from Outlook Help and should correct more problems with improper installation, corruption or initialization of Outlook objects. If the CD repair of Outlook also fails to rectify the problem then the issue may be very deeply seated in your Outlook installation. If this is the case, you will need to uninstall and reinstall Outlook to normalize your Outlook environment. If this occurs, do the following:
Close NEO and Outlook and any other applications you may have open as you normally would when you install new software.
Back up your PST and archive PST files to CD, DVD or other off machine storage device (just to be certain these are not lost or damaged), particularly if you haven't backed them up recently.
Go to 'Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs'
Scan through the list and locate Microsoft Office
Choose to 'Change' and then 'Remove'
Insert the original Office CD, which should auto start the Office setup executable
Choose to install Office.
The reinstall should correct all problems with the Outlook environment.
